Out of 40 Grading Chart

Every possible score on a 40-point test — from 40/40 (100% A) down to 0/40 (0% F) — with its percentage, letter grade, and GPA equivalent on the standard 4.0 scale.

When is a 40-Point Test Used?

Forty-question tests are common in high school science and history exams. Each question is worth 2.5 points, so missing four questions drops a student from 100% to 90% — still an A.

The letter grades below use the standard US 10-point scale: A (90–100%), B (80–89%), C (70–79%), D (60–69%), F (below 60%). GPA values follow the 4.0 unweighted scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0).
